One out of five American's experiences mental illness annually. In 2023, more than 49,000 people ended their lives by suicide in the United States, averaging 135 deaths per day. Suicide ranks as the 11th leading cause of death in America, having increased over 30% in the last 20 years. The government, private sector, communities, families and individuals play important roles in addressing mental Illness and preventing suicide through legislation, funding, public health, medical, community and educational initiatives and actions.
